Safety Tips from the American Motorcyclist Association

According to the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), Arizona helmet laws require requires riders under the age of 18 to wear helmets at all time. Of course, to limit the likelihood of brain injuries, we urge adults to wear helmets as well.

Other regulations for safe riding include:

  • Eye protection is required unless the bike has a windscreen.
  • During the daytime, a modulating headlight is allowed.
  • If you are carrying a passenger, the bike is required to have a passenger seat and passenger footrest.
  • You are required by law to have a left mirror and right mirror.
  • You are required to carry motorcycle insurance.
  • Your handlebars are required to be 15 above the seat.

Passenger safety is just as important as the driver safety. Both the operator of the motorcycle and the passenger are vulnerable to serious injuries.
